C is for......

Welcome to Week 3 of Round 12 of our Celebratory ABC Wednesday where once again we will Chew the Cud!

Meaning To chat, in an aimless manner.
Origin Alternative versions of this are 'chew the fat', 'chew the rag' etc. Cud is the part digested food that ruminant animals, notably cows, bring back into their mouths from their first stomach, to chew at
leisure.

 .

The image is of slow and aimless mastication and the allusive use of the phrase refers to that. In its literal sense there are references to chewing the cud' going back to Aelfric, 'De veteri et de novo testamento', circa 1000.

The first recorded use of it in the allusive 'chatting' sense is in Henry Fielding's The History of Tom Jones, 1749: "Having left her a little while to chew the cud, if I may use that expression, on these first tidings."

Nearer to home...............I am using my position as Founder of ABC Wednesday and proud team member to introduce you to a cheeky chappy chewing.......yes my very own new addition...BING!

So onwards Comrades....the world awaits you. Let the ABC Wednesday Carnival Commence!

B is for Brevity

The BEST of 2013 is yet to come!

According to my friend, BILLY Shakespeare, "BREVITY is the soul of wit."  Therefore I need to be BRIEF to BEAR witness to his sage advice. I also need to be articulate and BECKON you to follow my advice, too.

My advice?

Peruse without BASHFULNESS your archives of photos and choose a few BEAUTIES that will BEWITCH us and so we can marvel at the BANQUET of images spread BEFORE our very eyes.  There is so much available on our BEAUTIFUL planet. Even this small BIRCH, BATTERED by the BLUSTERY waves on Lake Superior is a worthy snapshot for "B." BE alert, and select the BEST image that lies waiting in front of your lens.

Your BEST is yet to come!!

A is for Apple

Welcome to the - who woulda thunk it? - TWELFTH round of ABC Wednesday, established by the ADMIRABLE Denise Nesbitt. Each week, there is a designated letter (this week is A, next week is B, etc.)

We have all sorts of rules and guidelines, but let's get to the CORE of the matter: we want to have fun. We like to invite people from all around our world to participate.

So here's the mechanics:

1. You write a blog post. It should include a mention of and link to ABC Wednesday, as well as clear reference how it meets the week's topic (A is for...) Feel free to use the current logo on your blog.

2. You enter the specific link to your blog post in that Linky doodad.

3. At least one person from the ABC Wednesday team, and undoubtedly others, will visit your post and leave a comment.

4. Try and visit at least 5 other participants either before or after your listing and comment on their post; or pick some at random. The more sites you do visit, the more comments you will probably get.

5. We retain the right to delete overly commercial links.

PLEASE don't force us to remove your post; we always feel badly about doing it. But we want to be fair to those who do abide by the rules.

If you have any questions about this, contact me at RogerOGreen (at) Gmail (dot) com.

Now why would I post Mary Hopkin's 1968 single Those Were the Days here?

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la...

Y is for HAPPY NEW YEAR

Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom
that experience can instill in us. Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.
Oprah Winfrey

Come, gentlemen, I hope we shall drink down all unkindness.
Shakespeare - Merry Wives of Windsor

The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective.
- G.K. Chesterton

Welcome to the Year 2013! I can't believe it's been 13 years since we welcomed in the new millenium when we all waited on tenterhooks to see if the world would implode!  Well, apparently life goes on everywhere and we continue to try to "get it right," as Oprah says.   I don't make resolutions at New Year's, as I try to live my life properly every day.  However, sometimes it's good to reflect on the past in order to make improvements for the future.  The year 2012 had some good and some bad - at home and on the world front.  So whatever I might do personally - whether it be to pray, to contribute financially, to befriend others, or simply share my words - I will do it.   I also encourage YOU to do it, too!  Keep going even if you want to give up on your resolutions.  Make 2013 the best Year ever!

What a year it will be!  Feel free to share your thoughts about 2012, yearnings for 2013, or your New Year's resolutions.
